KickStart provides positive opportunities for teenagers and young adults to live their lives as they go through tough cancer treatment.

We are a charity for young people with cancer in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

During an exciting part of your life when you should be in education, starting a new career, going to gigs, travelling, playing sport (and let’s be honest - on the internet, gaming or out partying), you are instead faced with the effects of cancer, treatment, isolation and dealing with the inevitable changes that cancer may have on your future.

Young people, not cancer, should be in control of their own lives.

Having seen from experience the physical and emotional changes that cancer has on teenagers and young adults, we want to help give you a KickStart to living and loving your life.

Emily was 18 and just about to start her second year studying textiles and fashion when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2009. She had just qualified as a studio and gym instructor in her spare time, and was a black belt at karate – so it’s fair to say she was pretty fit and healthy.

It took 6 weeks from initially starting with a pain in her chest, which got progressively worse, to finally get a diagnosis of leukaemia requiring urgent treatment that had to start the next day.
